Approximately 1300 customers are currently without power after today’s severe winds.

At the storm’s peak we had 2600 customers without power, including multiple large area outages in rural areas due to trees being blown into our high-voltage lines.

As the winds subside we’re progressively restoring these large area outages, as well as starting to attend faults affecting smaller areas and individual properties.

All our available crews have committed to work through this evening and power is expected to be restored for the vast majority of customers overnight, with the exception of the outage in Te Marua which may not be fixed until tomorrow afternoon.

We appreciate the patience of every customer who has been without power while we worked to restore supply to the Wellington network.

• Treat all lines as live and do not approach these but contact our emergency line 0800 248 148 to report a problem.
• Let your electricity retailer know if you experience a power cut.
• Track your outage to ensure it is shown on our outages page.
• Follow your emergency response plan and if medically dependent, contact your health practitioner if an outage puts you at risk of harm.
• Call 111 if anyone is in danger or if there’s a serious risk to property
