Wellington Electricity is carrying out a major upgrade of its Gracefield zone substation.
During March 2019 – February 2020, Wellington Electricity is carrying out a major upgrade of its Gracefield zone substation at 152 Gracefield Road.
The Gracefield substation provides power to 9,000 commercial and residential customers in this area of Lower Hutt. The work is part of our ongoing network-wide equipment replacement programme and will upgrade the substation systems and equipment to the latest technology and standards.
The most noticeable effects will be a large excavation at the road frontage of the site and the temporary loss of up to five car parks on the street outside. The footpath at the front of the site will be temporarily diverted.
Some of the businesses in the immediate area will experience brief power outages as the street supply transformer at the substation is replaced. The schedule for these outages will be further notified by your electricity retailer.
There will be regular construction activity on site and deliveries and removals of heavy equipment. The construction and excavation areas will be fully fenced.
We thank you for your patience during this important work.
