Get Connected

CIW image

This tool is designed for requesting new network connections, but can also be used to request other things like moving or burying our equipment.

We're working on customising the tool further, but for now, you can state "n/a" or select any option if the question doesn't apply to what you're looking to request.
For new connections, all questions are applicable.

In some cases, we can provide an expected cost instantly. Otherwise, we might need to look into your request further, which can take a couple of weeks.

FAQs

For more information on getting connected, please see our FAQs.

Select property type

Select property size

Residential (including subdivisions):
By residential, we mean a private dwelling(s) not normally used for any business activity.

Non-residential (commercial/industrial):
By non-residential, we mean anything that doesn’t fall under our definition of residential (with the exception of DG and UML).

Distributed Generation (DG):
Only select this option if the property you’re looking to connect is dedicated to DG (for example, a wind or solar farm).

Unmetered Load (UML):
Only select this option if you’re looking to connect a supply for low load applications such as public streetlights and CCTV, traffic signals and cameras, road signs, bus stops, phone boxes, water metering and telecommunications network equipment.

Connection

Do you need more than a single-phase 60 amp supply (per dwelling)?

A typical home will usually only need a single-phase 60 amp supply, so you can select ‘No’ unless you’re planning to install any of the following:

  • A spa/pool
  • Underfloor heating
  • An electric vehicle charger
  • Any other extra electrical load

If you’re not sure, please check with your electrician before proceeding.

How many dwellings are to be supplied?

How far away is the closest point of supply (connection point) from the property boundary?

This could be a pole, pillar or pit. Please look at these photographs to assist you in answering this question.

Based on the answers you've provided, you should be able to arrange a connection to our network via an electricity retailer. To do this, you'll need to:

  • engage a qualified electrician to undertake the work required to install the necessary electrical equipment from the building to our point of supply*
  • contact an electricity retailer to arrange for the installation of metering and the creation of an account for your new connection. Your electrician might be able to do this for you, but it's up to you which retailer you choose (Consumer Powerswitch can help if you're not sure).

When everything is ready to be livened, you can have your nominated retailer send us the new connection request on your behalf. We'll create a unique identification number for it and send one of our field staff to make the final connection of your property to our network.

*This work must not extend beyond the boundary of the property being supplied, but utility plans should still be obtained via beforeUdig to mitigate the risk of damage to any underground assets on private property.

Do you need a high voltage (11kV) supply?

Select ‘No’ if you’re not sure.

What is the anticipated electrical load?

Your electrician should be able to advise you on this.

Is this for more than one non-residential premises?
